How the secured business loan calculator works
Explore repayment costs alongside your own security-value and existing-debt assumptions, without a lending decision.
What you enter
- Loan amount
- Amount borrowed, excluding fees; £0.01 to £1 billion is a calculation boundary, not an available lending range.
- Annual rate
- Enter a quoted rate or your own assumption, from 0% to 100%. This is not an APR.
- Annual rate convention
- These conventions are different. Select the one matching the rate you enter; no APR is calculated.
- Repayment frequency
- 52 weekly, 12 monthly, 4 quarterly or 1 annual payment per year.
- Term — number of repayments
- Whole number, 1–1,040. For example, a monthly term is counted in monthly payments; a weekly term is counted in weeks.
- Upfront arrangement fees
- Paid separately, not financed. Enter zero explicitly if you assume no arrangement fee.
- Other upfront fees (optional)
- Optional. Blank means zero assumed additional fees, not a promise of no charges.
- Security type
- An assumed security category, not a lender's acceptance of collateral.
- Estimated security value
- Your estimate only, not an independent valuation or an available lending limit.
- Existing debt secured on these assets
- Enter zero if none is assumed. This model requires it not to exceed your estimated security value.
- Upfront valuation fees (optional)
- Optional. Blank means zero assumed additional fees, not a promise of no charges.
- Upfront security/legal fees (optional)
- Optional. Blank means zero assumed additional fees, not a promise of no charges.
Method and assumptions
For nominal annual interest, periodic rate = annual rate / payments per year. For effective annual interest, periodic rate = (1 + annual rate)^(1 / payments per year) − 1.
Reducing-balance payment = principal × periodic rate / [1 − (1 + periodic rate)^(-number of payments)]. At zero interest, payment = principal / number of payments.
Flat interest = original principal × annual rate × number of payments / payments per year. It is not equivalent to a reducing-balance rate or an APR.
Fees are paid once upfront. Total financing cost is interest plus fees; total cash paid is loan repayments plus upfront fees. Final repayment adjusts penny rounding. Provider schedules, early settlement and variable rates are outside the model.
Illustrative equity = entered security value − existing secured debt. Combined debt/value ratio = (existing secured debt + proposed loan) / entered security value. Neither is a lender's eligibility test or borrowing limit.
Security value, prior charges, realisation costs, guarantees and enforceability require professional and lender assessment. Assets or property used as security may be at risk if repayments are not maintained.
Status of these figures
Illustrative only, not a binding finance offer. Costs vary by lender and applicant; additional fees may apply and eligibility is subject to assessment. Ocean Capital Exchange is an introducer, not the lender. Product-specific regulatory disclosures require review before production. Assets or property used as security may be at risk if repayments are not maintained. Valuation, security charges and lending decisions require assessment.
Not every commercial finance product is regulated, and regulatory treatment varies by product, provider and borrower. Ocean Capital Exchange introduces businesses to third-party providers and is not a lender. These disclosures are awaiting owner and regulatory review before production.
Questions about this calculator
Does the security estimate show how much a lender will advance?
No. It only compares your entered value and debt. A lender must assess the valuation, existing charges, asset suitability and affordability.
Are valuation and legal fees included in repayments?
The entered fees are paid separately upfront and included once in total financing cost. They are not financed in this model.
