Local collections: letting overseas customers pay you in their own currency

Ocean Capital Exchange helps you check how overseas customers can pay your business in their own currency. Your account manager works through receiving details, references and conversion needs; local collection routes are available only where the provider supports them.

Definition

What local collections are

Local collection is a receiving service in which a partner issues account details for a currency or country, so overseas customers can pay through local clearing rather than an international transfer.

For the customer, paying a local account is often simpler. For you, funds can arrive with fewer deductions than an inbound international transfer.

Availability is specific to each partner, currency and country. Some details are pooled accounts referenced to your business rather than accounts in your own name.

Due diligence

What partners assess

Partners check who will pay you and why:

Customer base
Where customers are and what they buy.
Expected receipts
Volumes and currencies.
Business identity
Registration and ownership.
Third-party receipts
Whether you receive on behalf of others.

Information often requested

  • Certificate of incorporation or equivalent registration *non-UK only
  • Identification for directors and beneficial owners
  • Proof of business address *non-UK only
  • A description of expected payment volumes, currencies and counterparties
  • Sample customer invoices

Each partner sets its own criteria, may ask for more information and can decline an application. We cannot confirm which partner, currencies or countries will be available to you until it has reviewed your business.

Hypothetical illustration

Check a receipts conversion

Enter the received amount and a quoted all-in rate. The full amount is converted without a separate individual transfer fee. Additional third-party or intermediary bank charges may apply and are excluded.

Single conversion

What would arrive after conversion?

All fields are required and start empty. There is no live quote: enter a rate from a real quote or your own assumption.

Rates are destination currency per 1 unit of the currency you sell, for example 1.17 euros per pound.

In the source currency (the currency you sell). Greater than zero.

Units of destination currency per 1 unit of source currency. Greater than zero.

Hypothetical result

Complete every field to see a result (0 of 2 entered).

0 of 2 required figures entered

Assumptions, and what this leaves out
  • Direction: you sell the source currency and buy the destination currency.
  • The full source amount is converted; no separate individual transfer fee is modelled.
  • The rate you enter is assumed to already include any margin; no separate spread is added.
  • Third-party or intermediary bank charges may apply in particular circumstances and are excluded from this illustration.
  • Excluded: provider margin not reflected in your rate, intermediary or receiving-bank charges, card or platform fees, tax and any credit or margin calls.

Results are arithmetic on your inputs only. They are not a quote, an offer or advice, and no provider has priced them.

Local collection questions

Still unsure? Call +44 20 7183 2026.

Which countries can I get details for?

Tell OCE where your customers pay from. Your account manager helps check receiving details with the provider before you apply. Access to over 130 currencies does not guarantee local collections in every currency or country.

Will the details be in my company name?

Sometimes. Some partners issue named details; others use pooled accounts with a unique reference.

Is this the same as a currency account?

Local collection is a receiving feature typically attached to a currency account.

How fast do funds arrive?

It depends on the local clearing system and partner checks.

Can customers pay by card?

This service covers bank transfers, not card acceptance.

Are funds protected?

Check the receiving provider's terms for applicable safeguarding arrangements and limitations. These differ from bank deposit protection and do not guarantee instant recovery or no loss. OCE does not receive or hold the collection funds.
