How this is worked out, and what it leaves out
Annual cost is your volume multiplied by each margin. Saving is the difference between the two annual costs; monthly is a twelfth of that. The OCE margin is your own assumption, not a quote: actual rates depend on pair, size, timing and eligibility.
Margin-only model on GBP-equivalent volume. No separate individual transfer fees are modelled; third-party or intermediary bank charges may apply and are excluded. Indicative, not guaranteed, and not a quote.

How the calculation works
An FX margin is the difference between the rate you are given and the underlying market rate, expressed as a percentage. On a year of conversions, even a fraction of a percent adds up.
This calculator multiplies your annual GBP-equivalent volume by each margin to give two annual margin costs. The saving is the difference, shown annually and as a monthly equivalent, with the percentage reduction against your current cost.
Margins are rarely published and cannot be inferred reliably from a provider’s name alone. Your statements, or a comparison of the rate received against the mid-market rate at the time, are the best evidence.

Questions about the calculator
How is the annual FX cost calculated?
Annual margin cost is your annual GBP-equivalent volume multiplied by the margin percentage. The saving is the difference between the cost at your current margin and the cost at the illustrative OCE margin you enter. OCE does not typically charge individual transfer fees, so none are modelled. Additional third-party or intermediary bank charges may apply in particular circumstances and are excluded.
Can you tell me my current provider's margin?
No. FX margins are often not published and vary by client, pair, size and timing, so they cannot be inferred reliably from a provider's name. If you do not know yours, you can explore editable hypothetical scenarios, which are assumptions rather than verified costs.
Is the OCE margin a quote?
No. The OCE margin field is an editable assumption for illustration. An actual rate depends on currency pair, transaction size, timing and eligibility, and is only confirmed when a dealer quotes you. Confirm any additional third-party or intermediary bank charges for your payment.
Where do the industry cost comparisons come from?
A small number of items use a listed UK price checked on a stated date, with the source, VAT treatment and assumptions shown. Most are planning allowances with no price supplied: you enter your own figure. Editing a listed price turns it into your own planning allowance.
Are the comparisons added together?
No. Each comparison shows one alternative use of the same annual saving. They are not a combined basket.
Why is the wage comparison not my cost of employing someone?
The National Living Wage reference is gross hourly pay only. It excludes employer National Insurance, pension contributions and other employment costs, and specialist salaries are often much higher. Enter your fully loaded hourly cost for a realistic figure.
